NOSTOS
A Spiritual Homecoming

Welcome to the Nostos Institute
'The task is to give birth to the old in a new time.'
~ Carl Jung, The Red Book
The Nostos Institute was founded to raise awareness of the oldest spiritual traditions of the West – beautiful ideas and practices steeped in philosophy, myth, creativity and the embodied imagination – which have been a defining thread in the complex weave of our Western lineage for more than two and a half millennia. We're lifting these traditions out of the academic and theoretical spheres in which they've largely been confined, and combining them with cutting-edge ideas and practices from contemporary (primarily Jungian and post-Jungian) depth psychology and related mythopoetic disciplines. Our aim is twofold: first, to offer a groundbreaking curriculum for cultivating the mythic imagination; and second, to trace a living, spiritual desire path that responds to the challenges and opportunities of today’s world: an exploratory path that passes through and beyond personal transformation, opening into a dancing, animate cosmos saturated in the divine.
We’re gathering a community of the curious: learners and seekers who would like to explore these ideas with us – and who'd like to help us develop them.
At a time when many feel spiritually unanchored, the Nostos Institute provides something rare: a rooted, intellectually rigorous and deeply imaginative path to personal and collective re-enchantment.
Who we are
The Nostos Institute was founded by psychologist, mythologist and award-winning writer Dr Sharon Blackie. We have a home base at the thousand-year-old Broughton Sanctuary in North Yorkshire.

Join our online community of the curious
The beating heart of Nostos is our online Network, centred around a learning program with a focus on mythic imagination, creativity, philosophy as a way of life and grounded practice. This isn't a one-off course: it's an ongoing journey of discovery. For intensive monthly immersions, live webinars and sharing circles, philosophy cafés and spiritual accompaniment, resources across a wide range of media, community conversations and very much more – check out our online members’ platform.

Our Goals

What's On
